We are imperfect in being a woman and in being a man.
The institution of marriage arose out of God's loving heart. He saw that it was not good that Adam was alone, so he created Eve to be his helper. God created Eve out of Adam's side or rib. A proof for this is the chromosomes which clearly indicate that the man determines the sex of the child (XY chromosome). The woman has the XX chromosome and she cannot determine gender.
In Hebrew, Eva is Ezer, Adam's helper.
1 Timothy 2:13 repeats this, Eve was created after Adam. He was alone, without a counterpart like with the animals. The woman was created for his sake: 1 Corinthians 11: 9.
It was the first time in the Bible that God said something was not good. God brought Eve to Adam, and Adam was happy: Genesis 2:22. Adam then calls his woman as she was taken from him. He gives her the name and says: This is the flesh of my flesh. She should encourage him, strengthen him and challenge him. This demanding task is given by God. According to Titus 2, 4 she has the task of creating a shelter in which she works, a home where she takes care of the children. And Adam has his back free to fight in the world for God and the family. The man's job is to provide for his wife and family, to protect them, to guide them spiritually, and to love his wife as Jesus loves us. He is the Head of the family.
Man and woman are not interchangeable, they are a God-given unity in marriage. Marriage is only produced by both, different sexes. Both are dependent on each other in their distinctive character.
Genesis 2:24: She is the flesh of his flesh. Body, soul, and flesh are related for a lifetime. That is why a man will leave his father and mother and cling to his wife and they will become one flesh. Sex is created for mutual enjoyment, not just for procreation, but only in the context of marriage. It is not for nothing that God compares marriage to the union of us and Jesus in Ephesians 5:31.
